Katherine Hobson

Freelance writer

I’m an experienced writer who produces journalism and content for brands, focusing mostly on health, personal finance, psychology, and business. My stories have appeared in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, AARP online, U.S. News & World Report, SELF, Money, and NPR’s Shots blog, among other publications. My content clients include large financial institutions and boutique PR and communications firms.

I spent two years on staff at the Wall Street Journal as the lead writer for the health blog and as a contributor to the paper. Before that I was a senior writer on the health team at U.S. News & World Report. I started my career as a business reporter at Bloomberg News and TheStreet.com.

While at USNWR I was part of a team that was a finalist for a National Magazine Award, and I was a Knight Science Journalism Boot Camp Fellow in both food and medical evidence.

Services offered

Reported journalism: My journalism these days focuses mostly on health, medicine, and psychology. I specialize in smart service stories, delivering actionable advice from credible experts to readers.

Content marketing: More recently I’ve translated my journalistic skills — thorough research, interviewing of SMEs, information synthesis, and succinct, clear communication — into creating personal finance, business, and money psychology content for companies and brands. Working through top-tier content agencies, I help my clients produce useful, informative, and engaging stories for their websites or print magazines.

Communications research and writing: I provide research and writing services to an integrated communications firm. I craft press releases, produce research briefs as background for new business pitches, and edit internal written materials.

Three Great Books is my free book recommendation newsletter. If you love reading, give it a try!
